Chaplain Candidate Program

Are you looking for an exciting new way to practice your ministry? Then the Chaplain Candidate Program in the United States Armed Forces may be right for you. The chaplain candidate programs allow seminary students to gain ministry experience and serve their country while studying for ordination. The United States Army Reserve, Army National Guard, Navy, Reserve and Air Force Reserve all provide a chaplain candidate program for seminary students who are interested in becoming military chaplains. Chaplain candidates are full time seminary students who have graduated with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 120 semester hours. Chaplain candidates are directly commissioned as 2nd Lieutenants or Ensigns (O-1) and attend a basic officer’s training course. Chaplain candidates are paid as officers (O-1) and may also receive educational benefits as well. Chaplain candidates endorsed by the Anglican Church in America should be practicing Anglicans pursing ordination to the priesthood through the canonical process of one of the ACA dioceses. The various branches of the military have different requirements for join their chaplain candidate programs. The requirements can be found at these locations:

Army: http://www.goarmy.com/chaplain/chaplain_candidate_prog.jsp

Navy: http://www.navy.com/careers/officer/chaplain/

Air Force: http://www.afrc.af.mil/library/chaplain/howtojoin/candidate/index.asp

Those interested in becoming chaplain candidates should contact Bishop David Moyer (Bishop of the Armed Forces and DOD Endorser) at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Rosemont, PA - 610-525-7070.

For Chaplains seeking affiliation with the ACA

Clergy seeking endorsement from churches not in Communion with the Anglican Church in America will be dealt with on a case by case basis. They should contact the Bishop of the Armed Forces (Bishop David Moyer) in order to insure that all pertinent canonical requirements are met before endorsement.

Memorial Day Prayer

Let us pray.

ALMIGHTY God, Lord of eternity, and our heavenly Father, in whose strong hands are all our days; we give thanks to You for all those who have lost their lives in the service of our country. Men and women, created in your image; lost to us here, but alive in You... In every conflict on land air and sea, we have entered the space of battle, and have tasted the bitterness of loss even in victory. Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen, Coast guardsmen, and Merchantmen have traded their lives for our freedom. On this day of remembrance, may we be shaken from our contentment, and made alive again to honor these our fellow countrymen, taking up their standard. May we also remember the families of these our fallen brethren. Surround them with Your care and support. Flood them with healing balm to wipe away tears of sadness. Comfort them Lord in loneliness and profound loss; as the only One who can truly understand their loss. Bless and fill their lives with only good things. With one voice we raise this high prayer to Your Throne, and bid Your mercy upon us. In Your Holy Name we pray. Amen.
